My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Thank you to all our volunteers who made time to help take down our Christmas decorations last week. We are also grateful for all who helped decorate our Churches for the Christmas Season.
Please keep January 30th and 31st free for the St John Vianney Winter Rub. On January 30th there will be a Casino Night with a People’s Choice Competition BBQ Wings and on January 31st we will be hosting our KCBS Master Series BBQ Competition. We will be offering a Beef Brisket or Pulled Pork Meal. Your participation will help the St John Vianney Outreach program where we assist those in need during difficult times. Our Church has always had a preferential option for the poor. It speaks upon living the Gospel through our lives. At our Family of Parishes, we do various fundraisers to assist the less fortunate. St John Vianney’s Winter Rub is one of such events. In addition, every first Sunday of each month, there is a second collection in support of our Human Needs at Mary Our Queen and Outreach program at St John Vianney. As always, the need is greater each year. Thank you for your generosity.
The Men’s Club at Mary Our Queen will be hosting their Wild Game Feed at Mary Our Queen on Saturday, February 7. This is their Annual Fundraiser, whose proceeds support many of our Parish Activities at Mary Our Queen. I am also grateful for the $10,000 that they have been donating to Mary Our Queen each year to assist in the updating of our Parish Campus. We are grateful for all that they do.
This weekend we celebrate the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time. Ordinary Time does not mean ordinary but comes from the ordinal numerals by which weeks are counted – counting in the days of the Lord. There are 34 weeks in Ordinary Time, and the last Sunday of Ordinary Time is on the Solemnity of Christ the King. The Liturgical color for Ordinary Time is green which symbolizes life and growth.
We began a new season of Alpha two Wednesdays ago. If you did not manage to join us, you are welcome to join us next Wednesday at 5:30pm at Mary Our Queen Church. There is always a seat for you at the table. Alpha is a program that offers a safe space to question life, faith and meaning. Everyone is welcome. You are invited no matter your background or beliefs. An Alpha session includes food, a short video on a faith-related topic and conversation in small groups where you are free to share as much or as little as you like. There is no charge to attend and babysitting will be provided.
Last Sunday we will had a Welcome Luncheon for all our new Parishioners at St John Vianney after the 10:30am Mass in the Social Hall. This Sunday we will have a Welcome Luncheon for all our new Parishioners at Mary Our Queen after the 11am Mass. If you are new in our Family of Parishes and would like more information on how to get involved and the programs that are offered, please join us.
Other programs offered at our Family of Parishes are Financial Peace University that began on January 8th and Well-Read Mom. Please see the bulletin or visit our website for more information.
Blessings for the week,
Fr Marc
