Sister Parish Update – April 2023

SPONSORS ARE NEEDED FOR STUDENTS IN LIGERA, TANZANIA
The Mary Our Queen Education Center at our sister parish is thriving! Last year the teachers and administrators went through a rigorous application process for accreditation.  The school is now recognized by the government as a Vocational School.  The 17 students who completed the 3 year program in 2022 have taken the national exams and are expecting to have the results soon.  Due to the success of the school, enrollment has increased.  We have many more students in need of sponsors.  If you or your group (Men’s club, Knights of Columbus, Ladies guild, Prayer group, Catholic daughters, etc.) would be able to help with a student or a donation contact Mary Leighton at leightonmaryt@gmail.com or leave a message for the Tanzania sister parish committee at the parish office.  We would be happy to come to your group meeting to update you about the happenings in Ligera.

WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM INSTALLED IN LIGERA
The water in Ligera was not safe to drink without boiling it. Until now! Thanks to a generous MOQ parishioner, a system has been installed in the rectory that provides purified water. Our committee member, Leslie Puenta-Prai, has been in Ligera this month and has witnessed the installation and operation of the system.  She reports that it is amazing to see dirty water go in and crystal clear water come out.  There are spouts that direct purified water to the education center and the health clinic. This will make a tremendous difference in the health of the people in Ligera.
