Life A Precious Gift

Life is a God’s precious Gift and we all called to treasure this gift dearly.  The principal belief of the Christian faith is that life, in all forms, is sacred. Life is the creation of God himself. I believe wholeheartedly that life is sacred and is to be enjoyed as well as cherished. In our society, however, this is not always possible. Taking the time to live life the way God wants us to is not always easy.

We are here to be witnesses of love and to celebrate life, because life has been created in the image of God. Life is to love and to be loved. That is why we all have to take a strong stand so that no human being will be rejected or unloved. Every human being is a sign of God’s love that must be extended over all the earth.

 January 22nd, 2022 marked the 49th anniversary of the lamentable 1973 U.S. Supreme Court Decision, Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion, ending of God’s gift of life. God gift of life must be respected and cherished.  Respecting life means to focus our attention on issues such as abortion, assisted suicide, capital punishment, racism, war, embryonic stem cell research, and human cloning etc.   In the midst of widespread attack on the value of human life, we are called to the voice of the innocent.

When something is important, we need to take a stand, speak up and make our opinion known. We as society must make the commitment to all whose lives are in danger, including those who cannot care for themselves because they are unborn, elderly or infirmed.  We should cherish, build, and promote a culture of life and love in everything that we do. Specifically, we can all involve ourselves in some concrete positive way in promoting the cause of life in all its forms. We also can continue to pray daily that the cycle of violence and lack of respect for life that danger our society may be replaced by a cycle of peace and a respect for life in all its forms. For Jesus says: “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (Jn 10:10).

Prayer for Human Life

Almighty God, our Father, you who have given us life and intended us to have it forever, grant us your blessings. Enlighten our minds to an awareness and to a renewed conviction that all human life is sacred because it is created in your image and likeness. Help us to teach by word and the example of our lives that life occupies the first place, that human life is precious because it is the gift of God whose love is infinite. Give us the strength to defend human life against every influence or action that threatens or weakens it, as well as the strength to make every life more human in all its aspects. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
