Bereavement Ministry

Kolleen Hoffman, Bereavement Coordinator

Mary Our Queen's Bereavement Ministry is comprised of fellow parishioners who have also, through death, suffered the loss of a loved one. We are here to offer hope during the grief journey, and to reach out during this difficult time. Care and support are offered through our prayers, presence at funerals, Memorial Crosses, the Annual Mass of Remembrance, Christmas Memory Tree and grief support materials and resources.

Bethlehem House Support

Mary Leighton

Bethlehem House is a 12 bedroom home in Omaha that was founded to support life. It provides a home and support during and after pregnancy for women who are pregnant and in crisis. Women applying to live at the home come looking for help and loving support. They are alone, usually without family help or support. At Bethlehem house, the staff works to empower the residents with good parenting skills and help them to become self-sufficient and to overcome hardships.

Hooks & Needles Ministry

Formerly Craft Ministry, We meet the FIRST MONDAY OF THE MONTH @ 1:00 PM in the TRINITY ROOMS @ MOQ. There are NO DUES and NO MANDATORY MEETINGS! We welcome anyone interested in crocheting, knitting, sewing, and quilting. We gather to socialize and make items out of donated yarn, flannel, fleece or cloth material. We make afghans, blankets, hats, mittens, scarves, lap robes, prayer shawls, baby items, large bags, purses, dishcloths, jar grippers, etc! We make sizes from babies through adults. We even help our "furry friends" at the Nebraska Humane Society. We donate them to many organizations throughout our community; just to name a few: Catholic Charities, Siena-Francis, Heartland Hope Mission, MOQ Human Needs, schools and daycares. Not all members can attend the meetings, so these "angels" get material delivered to them and their beautiful finished items are picked up. Our ministry is such a heartwarming experience, we hope you will join us.

Dorothy Day Ministry

Gail Villotta

Dorothy Day Ministry gives volunteers a chance to live the Gospel by feeding the hungry. Over the past five years, we have partnered with the downtown parish of Holy Family Catholic Church. On the last Wednesday of each month, we deliver food and clothing to assist their pantry and clothing center. Non-perishables can be dropped off anytime in the narthex box near the MOQ church entrance, or taken to 3414 S. 114th Ave the Sunday-Tuesday before delivery. Please consider adding a few of the following items to your monthly grocery list, and thank you in advance for your generosity!

Prolife Committee

Lois Coyne

Our committee serves to inform parishioners about all issues related to the sanctity of LIFE from CONCEPTION TO DEATH. This would include topics such as contraception, abortion, the death penalty, euthanasia and ‘end of life issues’. Members attend such events as the Living Rosary, Life Chain, Prolife Conference, March for Life and peaceful witness and prayer outside Planned Parenthood and Bellevue Abortion Clinic. We also distribute materials and periodicals related to these topics from a Catholic perspective.

Mary Our Queen Volunteers help out the Siena Francis House on the fifth Thursday of any month that has five Thursdays. This may happen 4-5 times a year. The volunteers provide a cooked dish and bring it to one of three people who deliver the food for a meal. There are over 100 wonderful volunteers making meatloaf, green bean casserole, or scalloped potatoes.

The overall purpose of this ministry is to provide friendship and solidarity with the parishioners at Ligera, while simultaneously sharing our gifts with each other. The goal is for Mary Our Queen parish to grow deeper in faith as we respond to the call of the Gospel to welcome the stranger and be one in Christ.
