The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization engaged in charity (local and global in scope), Life Insurance, and faith-based institutional investing. Founded by Father Michael J. McGivney in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1882, it was named in honor of the mariner Christopher Columbus. Originally serving as a mutual benefit society to low-income immigrant Catholics, it developed into a fraternal benefit society dedicated to providing charitable services, promoting Catholic education and Catholic public policy positions, and actively defending Roman Catholicism in various nations. Council 11700 has been here at Mary Our Queen since 1995 and is approaching member strength of 400 Knights. Members must be a male practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and at least 18-year of age.
